Vincent Robert Serra

Vincent Robert Serra, a dedicated husband, loving father, esteemed veteran, lifelong learner, passionate sports enthusiast, versatile professional, and vibrant socialite, passed away on March 25, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family in his home. Born on Mother’s Day, May 9th, 1937, Vincent (Vinny) led a life marked by service, dedication, and an insatiable curiosity. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant during his eight years of honorable service.

Vinny pursued education throughout his life, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Rochville University. He furthered his academic achievements with a Doctor of Science in Engineering Management from Ashley University. 

Always eager to stay ahead in his field, Vinny recently undertook studies in Advanced Cyber Security at Villanova University. Vinny’s career spanned numerous fields, reflecting his diverse talents and unwavering commitment to excellence. He worked as a draftsman and Illustrator in his early years, later transitioning into roles such as design engineer, document management specialist, and ISO Regulatory compliance consultant. 

In 2005, he founded his own business, Business Improvement and Development Systems, showcasing his passion for helping companies standardize policies, processes and operating procedures. In addition to his remarkable career in industrial engineering, Vinny was a visionary business leader, consultant, and entrepreneur. His keen business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit enabled him to navigate the ever-changing landscape of industry with resilience and foresight, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Vinny was a devoted family man and avid sports enthusiast. A dedicated coach and mentor, he spent countless hours coaching his children in baseball and football, instilling in them not only the fundamentals of the game but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. In 1972, Vinny’s passion for football led him to found the Shelton Flag Football League with some of his friends. 

His vision and leadership laid the foundation for a community sports organization that would bring joy and camaraderie to generations of players and families. Vinny was also known for his love of leisure activities, particularly his fondness for bocce, backyard games, and the art of creating new games. He reveled in the joy of socializing, bringing people together through laughter, camaraderie, and friendly competition.

Vinny was a proud father to his children: Susan, Frederick, Robert, James, Michael, and Rita. His guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love enriched their lives and shaped them into the remarkable individuals they are today. He also embraced his stepsons, Christopher Houston and Jonathan Houston, with open arms, extending his love and care to them as if they were his own. 

Vinny is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Serra, his brother Raymond Serra and leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to his children: Frederick (Lisa), Rob (Kimberly), James (Karen), Michael (Raynae), and Rita (Rick Brenchak); as well as his 23 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pasquale Serra and Alice (Weed) Serra, his brother Thomas Serra, his daughter Susan Novak, and his granddaughter Jana Novak.

Vincent’s legacy of love, integrity, and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Shelton Flag Football league.
