Ansonia Residents Aren’t Sold On WPCA Sale

ANSONIAAnsonia city officials say that selling the city’s sewer system will bring needed repairs and cut costs for residents. On Tuesday (April 30), about two dozen residents presented a harsher view of the sale.

At a public hearing attended by at least 60 residents, corporation counsel John Marini delivered a presentation supporting a proposed sale of the city’s Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) to Aquarion, a private utility company. After the floor was opened for public comment, residents questioned nearly every aspect of the deal.

Seymour House Fire Was Accidental, Marshal Says

SEYMOUR — The fire marshal said a fire at a two-story house at 4 Laurel Lane Tuesday (April 30) was started by accident.

Seymour Fire Marshal Timothy Willis said the fire was reported at 11:22 a.m. on the front porch.

The fire was accidental and caused by careless disposal of smoking materials,” Willis said.

More than 50 firefighters from the Seymour Fire Department, with assistance from neighboring fire departments in Ansonia, Beacon Falls and Oxford, responded to the scene, according to Seymour Fire Chief Chris Edwards. Derby fire department crews provided station coverage for Seymour.

The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) reminds everyone that Thursday, May 2, 2024 is the National Day of Prayer.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May inviting every one of all faiths to pray for the nation. The tradition began in 1775 when the First Continental Congress called for a national Day of Prayer, continued when President Lincoln called for a Day of Prayer in 1863 and was made into law in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Truman.

Police: Arrest Made In Shelton Stabbing

SHELTONUPDATE — Police announced on Thursday, April 25 that an arrest had been made in this case.

Here is the pertinent info from a Shelton police statement:

Follow up investigation identified, Christopher Graham, age 38, of Shelton as the suspect in this incident. Shelton Detective Bureau obtained an arrest warrant for Graham related to this incident.

On 04/24/2024 at approximately 5:30 PM Graham’s vehicle was observed in the area of 36 Walnut Tree Hill Rd. With the assistance of Trumbull Police Department Graham’s vehicle was located on Nichols Ave. in the area of Hawley Lane.”

RESOLVED: That taxes on the Motor Vehicle Grand List levied against all taxable motor vehicle property in the Town of Seymour shall be due and payable in two equal installments, one half thereof on July 1, and the second half thereof on the following January 1, commencing with the October 1, 2024 Grand List.
